How often do you have a hard time to figure out what you should give to your child or even other family members for a birthday? If you are like me, you get something the day before or on the day of the birthday. Yes, when it comes to birthday preparation, I am not an expert.

How can you give something, that will have a profound positive impact on your child, which will be enjoyable for the whole family?

Lauren and I traditionally give cakes and gifts to our children, but today, while driving, Lauren asked me, what should we get for Dominik’s birthday? I had no idea, but then the light bulb comes up.

Instead of spending money on toys, games, or birthday parties, let’s create an experience which will help Dominik with some life lessons.

Let’s play a competitive sport

As people who like to compete in all kinds of sports, Dominik asked us out of the blue to play bowling. You do not have to ask me to play bowling twice. Thanks to my talent and Lauren’s not such a great bowling skillset I am the best bowler in our four-member family. I like to win, don’t judge me.

Anyways, bowling has many life skills which will benefit Dominik in the future. Like any sports, there will be a competitive lesson. You need to learn to perform the best to win. When it comes to the cheering part, it makes the sport so much more enjoyable when people genuinely want you to succeed.

There are other sports which might be fun as an experience birthday gift, such as mini-golf or go fishing. The choices are endless; you need to look around what’s available near you.

Make birthday dinner together.

This one is a fun one when you know what your child favorite dish is. It can be as simple as spaghetti or hamburger. When your children pick the meal, they want (do not forget dessert) go together to the grocery store and let your child find and select all the ingredients you need to have it for your celebratory dinner. Let them use their shopping basket. That way, they will have a responsibility, which makes them feel important, and you do not have to carry everything.

When you start the chopping and mixing, you will see the smile on your child’s face who is enjoying the quality time with the family. Just be careful, because this experience is addicting and your child might want to be helping you more often in the kitchen. I am speaking from personal experience.

Do what your children talk about

The best way to select the experience your child wants it to listen when they say what they want to do. When we pass the waterpark right here on Oahu, Dominik always says, he wants to go there. I bet that your child does tell you the same thing when you pass a specific place in your town or nearby. Just remember what they want to do and do it.

You will be surprised how many ideas you get for your child experience birthday.

Any activity you do as a family will have a profound impact on your children. The more unique the experience, the more your child will be impacted by it.

As a parent, I am looking for various ways to help my kids grow to better human beings and having experience birthday events is a great way to spend a quality family time where you can teach your children life lesson.

Cheers,
Honza
